Is Dave Chappelle Supporting Palestine Amidst Israel And Hamas’ War?

Israel has been unstoppable with its air strikes since Hamas, a militant organization in Palestine, attacked the country. The war between Israel and Palestine has been as old as 70 decades. The Palestinians near the Gaza Strip and the West Bank have been affected by Israel’s aggressive occupation of their land. The recent war has proven to be the deadliest, costing thousands of lives. Celebrities like Dave Chappelle and others have made their stance clear.

When the war between Hamas and Israel broke out, many celebrities like Amy Schumer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kylie Jenner, and others sided with Israel. However, there was less support from the celebrities for the affected Palestinians. The porn artist, Mia Khalifa, was the only vocal celebrity siding with the Palestinians. Now, during a comedy show, Dave Chappelle voiced his support for the Palestinians in a brave act.

During a comedy show in Boston, Dave Chappelle shut down pro-Israelis when he made the point that students supporting Palestinians should not lose job offers. At the TD Garden show on October 19, 2023, Dave Chappelle criticized the US government’s stand towards the Israel-Hamas war.

When Dave Chappelle started his show, he condemned Hamas’ attack on Israel, but later he alluded to the war crimes happening in Gaza. As per the attendees, when Chappelle was talking about how students supporting Palestine are getting affected, a heckler asked him to shut up. But the comedian continued, exposing the harsh realities on the ground in Gaza, where basic services have been cut off.

Due to David’s response, there was a mixed roar, which consisted of shouts for ‘Free Palestine’ and others yelling, ‘What about Hamas?’ Several people got up and left while Chappelle preached that two wrongs don’t make it right, condoning Israel’s policy and Hamas’ attack.

In 2022, Kanye West descended into the abyss of hate by spewing vile commentary against the Jews and African American people. He even threatened to call def con 3 on the Jews, as they had populated Hollywood. After his anti-Semitic spree, Ye was ousted from the industry, with brands severing ties with him.

During the SNL monologue in November 2022, Dave Chappelle alluded to his agreement with what West was saying. Dave said, “I don’t think Kanye is crazy, he’s possibly not well. I’ve been to Hollywood, this is just what I saw.” He theorized that just because a place is populated by a certain community does not imply that they are running it.

Dave added, “It’s a lot of Jews. Like a lot. There are a lot of Black people in Ferguson, Missouri, doesn’t mean they run the place. You might go out in Hollywood and you might start connecting some kind of lines and you might adopt the delusion that Jews run show business.” In conclusion, he said, “It’s not a crazy thing to think but it’s a crazy thing to say out loud.”
